What Is Scouting?

Scouting is a worldwide movement for boys and girls, founded by Lord Robert Baden-Powell in 1907. Noticing that military scouting helped soldiers develop confidence, and noticing the interest that boys had in it, he decided to develop a program that would help boys to develop those skills also. The first scout camp was held in August 1907 on Brownsea Island in Poole Harbour, Dorset, England. It was a huge success and the program rapidly spread through out the country and the world, soon including girls also.
